Believe it or not spending money on minor home repair issues will save money in the long run.

In the fall of 2008 Penn Contractors launched its maintenance division, Penn Home Services, to address the need for quality home maintenance provided in a professional atmosphere. Since then we have inspected many of our clients homes and have undoubtedly saved the majority of them money. We also learned that it is easy to be penny wise and pound foolish when it comes to home repair.

PENNY WISE AND POUND FOOLISH - "Overcareful about trivial things and undercareful about important ones. The literal image is of the person who fusses over small amounts of money to such an extent that he misses opportunities to save or make large amounts.

A home repair or maintenance problem caught early enough can be a simple fix. Simple fix = less capital outlay . For example a roof inspection will reveal minor items long before they show up inside the home and require drywall or plaster repair and painting. A different but valid example is installing high dollar solar collectors and not addressing the energy efficiency of your home. Air sealing and insulation are a lot less costly then photovoltaic cells.

BURY YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND- “to refuse to think about an unpleasant situation, hoping that it will improve so that you will not have to deal with it". Yes your back might feel better in the morning; however, you can count on it hurting again until you address the underlying problem. Likewise your home will not cure itself. The hanging cornice or rotten window trim is only going to get worse, possibly affecting other systems and components of your home along its way to the dumpster.

I would imagine that there are few among us that perform our own dentistry. Your home, your most valuable asset and the place where you and your family reside should be treated with at least as much respect as your mouth. The best course of action when you notice something wrong with one of the many systems or components that comprise your home is direct action. Call a professional we will take good care of you and your home.
